Project Name: Kelly Playdates of Augusta
Client: Kelly Playdates, a US-based chain of activity centers
Project Location: Georgia, USA
Deliverable by: Cowboy Group – Customized Playground Design & One-Stop Delivery Solution
I. Project Overview
This project is a customized indoor playground designed by Cowboy Group for Kelly Playdates, a well-known US chain of children’s activity centers. Located in Georgia, the space has a total area of only 63 square meters, yet it achieves a design breakthrough of “small but exquisite, comprehensive and specialized.” The space is designed for children aged 0-6 years, with a specially designated crawling area for children aged 6-18 months, covering the activity needs of infants and toddlers of all ages.
Addressing the space limitations of the long and narrow layout, the Cowboy team used a modular wooden playground as its core, juxtaposing play and leisure functions—one side is an interactive play area to stimulate children’s exploration, and the other side is a comfortable space for parents to rest and supervise, truly achieving a win-win scenario where “children have fun and parents are relaxed.”
II. Design Concept
The project’s design concept is “From Dream to Reality.” Cowboy combines children’s exploratory nature and developmental needs to create a fun-filled space integrating entertainment and education.
The space employs an open circulation system with flexible partitions and low walls for zoning, ensuring unobstructed views and easy adult supervision. All indoor play facilities use environmentally friendly materials, with rounded shapes and no sharp corners. Buffer protection is added to walls and corners to comprehensively ensure children’s safety. Different functional areas are furnished and equipped according to needs, with a rational plan for active and quiet zones. While ensuring safety, this approach stimulates children’s desire to explore, achieving simultaneous development of play, learning, and socialization.
III. Area Division with Commercial Indoor Playset
1. Builders Zone: Provides building blocks, craft models, and other play equipment, allowing children to explore independently and stimulate their creativity and hands-on skills.
2. Role-play Zone: The role-playing wooden play structure designed to simulate real-life scenarios like Ice Cream Shop & Supermarket, allowing children to develop their language and cognitive abilities through social interaction.
3. Reading and Relaxation Area: Equipped with soft seating and open bookshelves, creating a quiet reading atmosphere and a space for light interaction.
4. Climbing Ramp: A combination of steps and round soft mats allows children to develop their balance, strength, and coordination while climbing.
5. Spiral Slide: A slide of varying heights provides children with a safe and exciting play experience.
