Project Overview:
This project is an indoor activity room for the KSA Alerteqa Private Nursery in Saudi Arabia. The space covers approximately 60m² and features a unique fan-shaped layout with a high ceiling and a large curved floor-to-ceiling window that offers excellent views, natural light, and ventilation. Designed for children aged 3 to 6, the activity room aims to provide a creative, interactive, and safe environment that promotes their physical, cognitive, and social development.
Design Concept:
The design concept for this school indoor playground revolves around the theme of “Natural Fantasy,” creating a dreamlike space where children feel as though they are between a dream and nature. By blending natural elements with imaginative touches, the design uses whimsical shapes and soft color tones to spark curiosity, exploration, and creativity. The flexible layout caters to children’s sensory experiences and psychological needs, ensuring a safe, free, and joyful environment for growth. Key functional zones include a play area, an educational zone, and a reading corner.
Color Palette:
Inspired by the beauty of nature and the magic of dreams, the color scheme combines soft pastels like light blue, blush pink, and lavender with vibrant shades of yellow, green, and blue. This creates a light, serene, yet energetic atmosphere. Cloud and star patterns on the ceiling and walls add a dreamlike touch, making children feel as though they are exploring a fairy tale world. The colors not only capture children’s attention but also help regulate emotions, providing a sense of security and happiness.
Zone Introduction:
Play Area:
The play area is designed for children to release energy and engage in physical activities. Combining natural elements with the fantasy theme, the space features bright orange and blue tones that inspire exploration. Equipped with a wooden playhouse, climbing nets, slides, a ball pit, and soft sensory play equipment, this area encourages children to develop coordination and social skills while having fun. The spacious layout allows for various activities and interactions.
Educational Wall Play Zone:
This zone is a highlight of the design, featuring a wall filled with diverse educational toys and interactive installations. It includes nature-themed wall activities for younger children and STEM-based puzzles for older ones. The use of natural tones like blue and purple creates a visually soothing environment while stimulating creativity and problem-solving skills. Through interaction with the wall installations, children can develop logical thinking, patience, and a love for exploration.
Reading Corner:
Located under the staircase, the reading corner is a peaceful and quiet space designed to help children focus on reading and self-discovery. The soft pink and white tones, paired with natural wooden bookshelves, cozy children’s sofas, and greenery, create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Cloud and star decorations on the walls enhance the dreamy ambiance. This area offers a variety of books and a flexible layout, allowing children to immerse themselves in stories, fostering imagination and concentration.
